The Anima Project and Argo Theater Company are proud to present The Rite of The Serpent Skirt: a stunning new play about self imposed limitations and what it takes to be liberated from them.
The Rite of the Serpent Skirt – named after the ancient goddess of the Americas - takes place in present-day New York, where a frazzled nurse, Lily, tries desperately to survive her double life as both the caregiver to a young, handicapped girl, and as the wife of a wealthy business-man. Lily and four supporting female characters arrive at a critical moment in their lives when they must choose between the limiting comforts of the past or face the fear of moving on. And when their worlds unravel, the results are both devastating and enlightening.
The play’s Creator-Producers Angela Dee (WakeyWakey Media), Christina Fanizzi (Antigone Through Time), Sonia Satra (Guiding Light) and Erin Walls (The Yards) developed The Rite of the Serpent Skirt through interviews and improvisations guided by writer Dan Pulick and director Glynis Rigsby (ACT) over a period of 11 months. Loosely based on Mike Leigh’s improvisational technique, the group created a dynamic and ambitious play that dares to leave the audience contemplating their impact on the world around them. Ambitious as it is, The Rite of the Seprent Skirt is also deeply philosophical and strangely funny.
Featuring a diverse ensemble of 15 accomplished actors with Erin Walls as the quirky yet deeply haunted Lily. Co-starring: Christina Fanizzi, Deanna Companion, Kristen Fiorella, Tijuana Ricks and Daryl Boling… to name a few.
